wonderful book to read with children..educational and fun!
this is a marvelous book for children and they never tire of reading it with me. It teaches them about diversity, kindness, humor the simple pleasures of life. It is a book that adults as well as children enjoy reading together. I bought it for my youngest son who is now 28 and have been reading it to my six grandchildren. My copy has been taped and retaped......please republish this book!!!It also has marvelous illustrations.

I spent hours reading this book as a child.
This is truely a modern classic. The illustrations fill the pages with curious children playing, pretending, sharing and enjoying all the things that happen in a busy day. Please reprint this book so I can experience it all again!

The Greatest Children's Book Ever Written!
"Oh, What a Busy Day!" is the best children's book ever written as far as I am concerned. My grandmother bought the book for me when I was a child. I am 25 years old now and wish it was still in print so more children could enjoy this magical book. I still tend to flip through it from time to time and remember the days when I would sit for hours reading this book, looking at the pictures, and pretending I was there. I don't have any children yet, but when I do this will be the first gift that I will buy for them.

Cb's praises
I will say quite simply that having read this book I can see more clearly who it is I truely care about. It describes friendship with an unmatched child-like simplicity that strikes the beats of every heart that's had a true friend. This book makes the perfect gift for anyone special in your life.

A book for any age
I was given this book as a child but it wasn't until I read it as an adult that I realized how special it is. Its perfect as a gift for friends, family, that special someone, or for yourself when you're feeling down. I read it whenever I want to remember how simple life can be or if I need a good laugh. I think it teaches you a lesson to live by: remember to be goofy sometimes and enjoy the silly moments in life with the people you love, I mean really enjoy them, like you would a parade, no matter what day it is!

Simple, innocent, and quite meaningful
I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend, something that wasn't too cliched or overdone. Somehow the recommendation system at Amazon pointed out this little gem. So, I bought it, figuring that if it turned out to be corny or too elementary, I'd just give it to one of my nieces.

As it turns out, this is an amazing book that manages to give a simple voice to strong, complex emotions, and all this in a funny, whimsical way.

My girlfriend was very surprised and absolutely loved it. We sat down right there and read it out loud together. To this day she will sometimes include quotes or excerpts from it when she writes me or we're talking on the phone.

For a purported "children's book," it has a powerful impact. Sometimes you laugh while you're reading it, sometimes you simply say "That is so true!" Given wisely to those whom you truly care about, it states beautiful truths in an innocent, meaningful, effective way.

Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home: Fast and Easy Recipes for Any Day

Only for the adventurous!
Although I love this book I didn't give it a full five stars because A) there are no pictures and B) I felt that the recipes would probably not appeal to everyone.

It is a personal favorite precisely because it is unusual. My family especially loves the African Pineapple Peanut Stew and Chick Pea and Artichoke Heart Stew, but we've enjoyed all of the dishes I've tried so far. There are some recipes that might be more familiar such as Mushroom and Smoked-Cheese Pizza and Curried Fried Rice.

Most of the recipes would fit a vegan diet, but some do include fish, eggs and dairy products. At the back of the book there is a list of nondiary and vegan recipes as well as lists of special dishes for entertaining, kid-pleasers, dishes that sit well and are suitable for a buffet, and 30-minute dishes.

Most of the recipes are fairly quick and easy to prepare. There are a lot of fresh ingredients used, so that could take more time. Be aware that many of the ingredient lists contain things like finely chopped onion, chopped fresh thyme, fresh grated cheese. Unless you are a very quick chopper you will need to buy prepared ingredients or elicit some help in the kitchen to get dinner on the table in less than 45 minutes.

I bought this book with the intention of including more vegetables, fruits and legumes in my diet. I have accomplished that and becuase the recipes are so flavorful we don't miss the meat at all.

A Classic!
I have had this book since it was first published and my weathered, stained, dog-eared copy can attest to the practical and delicious recipes it contains. A great variety of foods--my favorites are the Red, Gold, Black, and Green Chili, Pasta Tutto Giardino ("the whole garden" pasta with a light cream sauce), Tomatican (a vegetarian adaptation of a Chilean stew with tomatoes, corn, lima beans), and Vegetable Stifado (a Meditarranean-style stew with eggplant, okra, and peppers), and Fish with Tomato-Orange Salsa. All get rave reviews when I cook them for company. Most are not only vegetarian but also lowfat. There are still dishes I haven't tried because I like the ones I have tried too much! My parents have this cookbook and love it, and they aren't even vegetarian. You can't go wrong with any Moosewood cookbook, but this is by far my favorite. Easy to follow, simple and delicious!

This is the best, my copy is falling apart
I'm a personal Chef. I work part time cooking privately for a Jesuit Community as well as teach Vegetarian Cooking at the New School in NYC. This cookbook, is the wonderful! I literaly have to buy a new copy cause mine is falling apart. The recipes are easy, versatile, well written and varied. The suggestions for menus are helpful. And you dont have to be vegetarian to enjoy this book. The fish recipes are excellent and all the dishes can be used with other meals. I have an extensive library of Vegetarian cookbooks and this one is the one I use. Thanks Moosewood :) Merrick Dean

April Fool's Day: A Modern Love Story

Courtenay Tops Himself Again
Bryce Courtenay is one of the best authors Ive read in sometime. Unfortunately it is often difficult to find most of his books in the States as some are out of print. Nevertheless, I have thoroughly enjoyed everything he's written but April Fools Day tops them all! This touching story makes you laugh and cry. A wonderful personal account of his sons fight for life. I doubt if there are many of us who have the courage and passion for life that Damon had. It is a tragedy that he died but more importantly a blessing that he was able to touch so many in the short time he was alive. An incredible read! It should be required reading for all.

A Real Masterpiece
April Fool's Day is the most moving book I've read this year. I find it really important that Courtenay decided to share such a personal thing to share with us. Although Damon died when he was only 24, I believe he was very lucky to have known really love (I wish every man had a loyal and wonderful girlfriend like Celeste) and have had constant support from his parents and brothers. Despite the acute and neverending pain he was in all the time, I believe, Damon was very strong, stronger than most of the people I've met or heard of, because he didn't want anyone to pity him for his illness. He tried everything he could to lead a normal life and has made me aware that nothing in this world is more important than health. Thus we should treasure every single minute in our lives. Bryce Courtenay is one of the best authors, and if there are better authors than him I'm afraid I haven't read them yet. Thank you.

Moving and inspirational. A must read!
Since purchasing this book when it was first released I have read and reread it yet it still has not lost the power that gripped me originally nor the need for tissues. Bryce Courtenay tells a personal, emotive story with a great deal of feeling. His descriptions of the life of a person with aids are thought provoking and compassionate. I feel as if I know Damon and Celeste just through what is written. April Fools Day is a must read for all people. It will keep your attention right through to the end.

How to Save Money Every Day
Ellie's book is a hit! Reading it was like enjoying a banquet of savings ideas filled with morsels of humorous family stories as an added bonus. As a stay-at-home mom, I appreciate her sensible steps to saving my family money every day. Thank you, Ellie!

How a Mother of Six Has Been Helped
In March of 2001, I "just happened" to be listening to a radio station to which I normally do not tune and heard Ellie Kay being interviewed about how she saves money on groceries. My ears perked up, because up to that time, I had been struggling to stay within my food budget. I am the mother of six children (ages ranging from 2-20). After hearing Ellie on the radio, I purchased How To Save Money Everyday (along with Ellie's first book, Shop, Save, and Share). Her books have been very instrumental in helping me save money on my grocery bill. Since I have been using Ellie's suggested methods of saving, I have also had enough to occasionally share with two single moms, as well as sending a variety of items to a children's home. I am very thankful for being led to hear about Ellie Kay's books.

How To Save Money Every Day
I am so excited about this book. Ellies stories and tips on saving are so insightful as well as easy to do. I love hearing about her family, it gives me hope for mine. However the tips are the BEST. It nice to know that something in my life can be organized and simplified. Thanks Ellie, and I'll be looking for future books.

I can't wait!!!!!
I know that writing a review before you read a book is kinda stupid, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. First I have like memorized all the Heartland books I have read them so many times. Second I really hope that there is some kind of romance between Ty and Amy in this book, since it was hinted that Ty likes Amy in the first book. And Third I hope Lou finds ends up with Scott, but also that she finds their father. I am hoping that maybe the father can be entered into the storyline, but if he can't I suppose I wouldn't really mind, it would be a little bit of a let down though. But thats ok, her books are some of the best I have ever read! I just hope she doesn't do what K A Applegate did at the end of Animorphs. I suppose I can see her point in ending it like that, but I think she could have made it way better. Heartland is one of THE BEST series I have ever read. Lauren Brooke, don't let me down!

My favorite Heartland book from all 7!
When I read this book I loved it! It's about Amy a girl who lives on a horse farm- Heartland- which gets bussnies by curing horses from their scars ( Scaredom, bad beahvior, and Treating badly) In this book Amy is working with a horse called Melondy which has just given birth to a foal named Daybreak. Anyway Ashley Grant - Amy's emeny- invited Amy and all her friends to a big christmas party, Amy doesn't know why intill she sees Ashley trying to get Ben- one of Heartlands 2 stablehands- to notice her. Amy then knows why Ashley invited them. Amy's best friend Soyna likes Ben too so she's very disipointed that Ashley likes Ben too.
At the Christmas part Ty- The other Heartland Stablehand- and Ben pick Soyna and Amy up- When Amy's and Ty's hands touchs she blushish, Amy doesn't know why. Ty's been Hearland's stable hand for a long time. At the Grant's party things get worse! Matt- one of Amy's friends- pulls her on the dance floor to slow dance! Amy doesn't like this, she knows Matt likes her but she just wants to be friends not boyfriend and girlfriend. But when she trys to tell Matt he goes away. Amy, Soyna, and Ty rush over to Matt when they find him dancing to not anybody but Ashley! After some time Amy and Ty dance together Amy feels strange- She just doesn't know why it was Ty she was thinking of- Ty the person who worked many years at Heartland since he was 15.

At Tys birthday he makes sure Amy's safe when Amy's older sister-Lou- is trying to find the farther who abanded them, and Amy's babysister is going on a vet meeting with Heartlands vet and Lou's boyfriend- Scott (also Matt's older brother)- When the opened Ty's gift they almost kissed! Arm to arm mouth to mouth- They were porbaly going to when the phone rang. It was a nurse at a hosptial. You see Amy's grandpa was sick. The nurse said her grandpa was geting really sick, and so Ty and Amy rush off.

If you want to find out the rest about Amy's grandpa and about Ty and Amy how now there going to get along, and about if Amy and Matt will make up and much more get the book!

...wonderful...
I really like the Heartland series, and I've read all of them up to book 6. I love them all, but this one was my favorite. It was absolutely wonderful, and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Even after it was finished, I didn't want to put it down- I wanted to find out what happens next.
This book is so exciting. Every page is interesting.
This book is a mixture of feelings- sometimes it makes you want to cry along with Amy, or sometimes it makes your heart pound in your chest.
All in all, I loved this book and all the other ones I've read.

I don't like to tell what happens, because then it sort of takes away some of the excitement or surprise when you come to a part you already know. The end is like the best part.

If you're looking for a good horse book, but one that's really realistic, you should read the Heartland series. Especially this one. This is one of those books that really deserves 5 stars...
I simply can't wait to read #7... I really want to know what's going to happen between Ty and Amy!

Anyway, if you haven't read this book already, you'll make a wonderful decision by reading it- NOW!

Thank You for taking the time to read this. It's really a wonderful book~ love horses

The Day of Reckoning

The Day Reckoning a Story Arc
I've been reading the Jedi Apprentice books to my son (Alex) off and on for the last three years, and he's loved them - and so have I. I still read them to him even though he's getting old enough to read them himself, just so I can have an excuse to read young adult books (yes they are that good).

We've followed the early adventures of Qui-Gon Jinn and young Obi-Wan Kenobi and have been enthralled with the ongoing Xanatos conflict (Xanatos is Qui-Gon's former apprentice introduced to us in the second book of the series "Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: The Dark Rival") . Over the last few book there has been a large story arc concerning Obi-Wan leaving the Jedi order that reaches its conclusion here, and we were happy to see its well thought out end (following a story that long has been a challenging task for my son). However about halfway through this well written epic adventure (as good as any published for adults), I realized that story elements that were set in motion during the very first books (the equally great "Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: The Rising Force" and the aforementioned "Dark Rival") were now coming to a head.

At first I was concerned that my son wouldn't remember all that had come before (in the last 8 books) but just as with Bruck's story in the last book ("Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: The Captive Temple") it came back to him and that speaks volumes about the quality of Jude Watson's writing - that in an age were so much is disposable and easily forgotten, these books have left a lasting impression with my boy.

We look forward to breaking the spine of the next book in the series, to see what adventures await Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and if they are anything like what has come before - I know we're in for a treat.

An excellent addition to the series
All I can say is, "Wow!" Jude Watson does not disappoint with the newest installment in the Jedi Apprentice series. Unlike the last few books in the series, this one ends with a sense of closure without wrapping things up too neatly. The action is ever present, but it does not dominate the book. Two new characters, Den and Andra, appear in this book, and Watson presents them in a believable manner. Den, especially, is reminiscent of Guerra in some of the earlier books in the series, though certainly not a carbon copy. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are presented true to form. Obviously, I would suggest that one start with the first book in the series, but failing at that, The Day of Reckoning would be an excellent starting point. I recommend it highly.

Qui Gon vs. Xantos
This book is the last of three book in the Jedi Apprentice seris. Book numer 8 takes place right after Xantos escapes. The jedi counsel does not approve of Qui Gon's decision to go after Xantos but Qui Gon goes after him anyway. Xantos is Qui Gon's old apprentice who turned to the dark side. Obi Wan Kenobi the boy who is now trying to become a jedi again(If you want to find out why he is trying to become a jedi for the second time read book 6) is trying to earn back his rank of Qui Gon's apprentice. They go to Xantos home planet of Telos where they find they are wanted criminals and are framed for a crime by Xantos. They meet a criminal/gambler named Den who helps them narrowly escape the police on Telos. He leads them to one of his friend named Andra. She is trying to prove that a tech company Unify is mining and destroying precious land on Telos. Qui Gon devises a plan. Obi Wan and Andra are to break in on the precious land and record the mining taking place and fine proof that the mining company Offworld is involed. They need to find this evidence because Xantos is the head of Offworld and has been cheating the people who love him on Telos. The second part of the plan will also be revealed but I think have told you enough. I highly recommend this book.

No Such Thing as a Bad Day

A Memoir that grabs you and holds you to last page!
A good friend sent me this book even though she calls me a "right-wing Republican" and not a Carter fan even though I happen to live in Georgia and ironically have the same last name at the author. This book is bigger than all that. It is the human story of one man's life, rich stories about Vietnam, Washington and the civil rights movement and powerful, emotional and important stories about Mr. Jordon's three different bouts with cancer. But not just a cancer book but a book for anyone who likes a good read that grabs you and holds you and holds you to the very last page!

You Won't Be Able to Put This Book Down
Being a southerner myself, and also having almost every single male member of my family die of cancer, this book really hit home for me. It is inspirational and full of hope. I think Mr. Jordan's legacy will not be his time in politics, but more importantly it will be his own life story and the war he and his family have waged against cancer. The book is uplifting and entertaining. The political history itself makes the book a fascinating read, but the real story is Mr. Jordan's successful battles with cancer. I am so glad that I had an opportunity to read this book, and I truly believe that it will inspire anyone who picks it up. I guarantee you won't be able to put it down- I couldn't!

A Masterpiece
Unquestionably the finest memoir that I have read in my life. Mr. Jordan powerfully describes his most personal experiences with both cancer and American politics in an incredible manner. This book contains stories that every human should have the opportunity to read. Mr. Jordan is a cancer survivor, a family man, a politial leader, and most importantly a gentleman. My recomendation is to not only buy this book for yourself, but also copies for every person who is important to you as well. You certainly will be glad that you did. I thank Mr. Jordan for writing such a wonderful book for us all to read. It is certainly as good as they come.

Snowy Day
Published in Paperback by Viking Press (June, 1981)
Average review score:

The Snowy Day
This book is a very well written childrens book. It is about a little boy who goes outside and plays in the snow all day. He puts snow in his pocket before he goes inside and after his bath he checks for it and notices it is gone. He is sad, he dreams that the snow melted. When he wakes up the snow is all there and he goes and plays with his friend.

I thought this book was a very easy reader. Childrenof all ages 3 to 6 would enjoy this book. So the next time you read a story to help you get your child to sleep remember about, "The Snowy Day." Written by Ezra Jack Keats.

Magic, Wonder, and Possibilities.....
"One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everthing as far as he could see..." Peter can't wait to jump into his snowsuit and run outside. There are footprints to make and watch as he walks along, snowmen to build, and angels to carve into the snow with his arms and legs. There are mountains of heaping snow to climb and then slide down, again and again, snowballs to pack, and snowball fights among the bigger kids to watch. And after a long cold, wonderful day outside, there are warm and cozy snow dreams to dream until he wakes the next morning to another fun-filled snowy day..... Originally published in 1963, Ezra Jack Keats' The Snowy Day, is still as fresh and inviting today, as it was forty years ago. Mr Keats' gentle, engaging text captures the essence of the child in all of us on a snowy day, and is complemented by his simple, expressive and evocative, award winning illustrations. Together, word and art brings all the wonder, magic, and imaginative possibilities of a big snowfall to life on the page. Perfect for preschoolers, The Snowy Day is a captivating treasure, to read and share now with friends and family and future generations in the years to come. A MUST for all home libraries, this is a timeless classic that shouldn't be missed.

It's a classic (and a Caldecott Medal winner) for a reason!
This book is part of my standard baby shower gift package along with Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. With very few words it manages to tell a very simple, yet very elegant story that young children can relate to. The pictures are beautiful and draw children further into the story. As an added bonus, the main character is African-American. Though it makes no difference to the story, it was important to me as a child reading this book 25 years ago to see a kid that looked like me in a book where race was not the focus of the plot, and is important to children of any race reading it today. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for any child of any race, boy or girl.

Days Are Just Packed (Ppb) Calvin & Hobbes
Published in Paperback by Andrews McMeel Publishing (October, 1993)
Author: Watterson
Average review score:

A great book with strips that still crack me up!
The first few pages didn't quite hook me, but because I love Calvin and Hobbes, I continued reading, and then I found myself really getting into it. I love the way Bill Watterson combines his long stories with his brief four-panel ones. (A bonus for this book was the color Sunday strips, which previous collections didn't have [except the treasuries.]) I loved the long stories in this book, including Calvin and Hobbes' war against each other and then Susie, the reappearance of the time machine, and the first appearance of Chewing magazine! I loved this book, but there was just something lacking that made me give it 4 out of 5 stars. (The title definitely wasn't as creative as Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons.)

One of the Best
The Days Are Just Packed is one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes books. It is the first collection to have the undivided Sunday format, and the full-format Sunday strips are real works of art. Even after you've read it a million times, and have all the punchlines memorized, this is still a great book, and worth reading again. If you haven't been exposed to Calvin and Hobbes, this would be a great place to start.

A great read for fans of comics
Bill Waterson is argudably one of the best comic writers out there. Even through his retirement, he has made great books of past comics featuring his Calvin and Hobbes characters. I laugh and laugh at these comics he creates and I sometimes wonder how he comes up with such brilliant ideas sometimes with the storylines of some of the strips.

Calvin, one of his best known characters, is the trouble-making kid in the school. He is funny and imaginative and likes to make funa and games with his "real" pet friend Hobbes. Through the comics, you can see the relationship between a stuffed animal and a human.

In this comic though, Hobbes "comes to life" in Calvins eyes. The things that Calvin can sometimes get involved in is so hilarious and sometimes out of this world.

I guarantee that anyone that loves comics will fall in love with this one and should definitely buy this book to start their collection of classic comics.

All of Bill Waterson's comic books are very well done and very professional. His work is his life and it shows the time and consideration it took to make these characters come to life. Thank you Mr. Waterson for creating such a great comic and thatnk you people for reading my review!
